Shinko - Nishishiba SMB type submerged motor pumps have been developed as the send-out pumps in LNG, LPG & DME storage stations, and pressurizing and circulating pumps in LNG cryogenic power generation plants.
The pump is used in submerged condition in the cryogenic liquefied gas in the barrel installed outside of the storage tank. It can be taken out of the barrel easily by closing the valve provided between the barrel and tank, if the necessity occurs to check the pump for maintenance and inspection.
The pump and motor are so constructed as to form one body and submerged in the pumping liquid, thus there is no fear of liquid and gas leakage because of no sealing device required.
The motor is operated in liquid and completely isolated from atmosphere, then it is absolutely safe from explosion.
At the even number stage of the pump, the impellers are divided into 2 groups of equal number and are arranged back to back each other. Therefore, the hydrodynamic thrust is balanced and the thrust bearing is kept free from the undue load.
The lower side of the first stage impeller is provided with the inducer. The low NPSH characteristic of the inducer ensures safe operation even when the effective NPSH is 0 meter.
Lubrication for ball bearings is effected by the pumped liquid, which is also used for cooling the motor.
The stator coil is fabricated with the form wound type with high insulation property and rigidity. For the motor insulation material and varnish, the materials with good insulation property, durability and cryogenic resistance property are used.
